U.S. Customs & Trade Compliance
Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist role at Miba is vital to ensuring adherence to customs and trade standards across our U.S. and Mexico locations. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement these standards, oversee import and export processes, and provide strategic consulting in customs and foreign trade. This position is crucial for maintaining legal compliance, optimizing operations, and supporting Miba's mission of "Technologies for a cleaner planet."
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementation of Global Standards: Develop and implement standards in Customs & Trade Compliance for Miba’s U.S. & MX locations.
- Support & Coordination: Collaborate with local colleagues in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, and Sales on all Customs & Trade Compliance issues, including:
- USMCA & country of origin determination
- Customs tariff classification / HTSUS
- Customs valuation
- Export control classification
- Management & Oversight: Oversee all import & export customs processes for Miba U.S. & MX.
- Data Review: Manage and review import entry data, implementing standard compliance checks.
- Training & Workshops: Conduct training sessions and workshops for local employees.
- Project Management: Lead and implement projects in local Customs & Trade Compliance.
- Standards Development: Actively contribute to the development of local and global compliance standards.
- Licenses & Legal Changes: Monitor and support in maintaining local licenses (e.g. ITAR), report legal changes.
- Authority Coordination: Coordinate with local authorities, support in customs and foreign trade audits, prepare and file prior disclosures/protests/commodity jurisdictions.
- Customs Brokers: Coordination and alignment with involved customs brokers.
- ACE Portal Key User: Act as Key User, Administrator, and Process Owner for the ACE Portal (U.S. Customs Data).
- Strategic Consulting: Provide strategic consulting in the area of customs & foreign trade.
Requirements
- Experience: Candidates with various levels of experience are welcome, including those with little experience in Customs & Trade Compliance but who have an interest and enthusiasm for this area.
- Skills: Analytical and process-oriented thinking, service-oriented mindset.
- Training: Comprehensive training provided through external programs and on-the-job training by the supervisor.
- Location Flexibility: Willingness to work from McConnelsville, Ohio, or other Miba locations (Detroit or Chicago Area - Grafton or Sterling Heights) or Mexico.
- Travel required (10% or less). This position is eligible for hybrid working schedule.
